NIKKI’S MORAL STORIES FOR KIDS!
“Judging People”
By: Mayukha Kashyap
Hey there kids! I’m Nikki Maxwell, a sixth grader at Laurel Brook Middle. I have 3 friends named Sabrina Khan, Loretta Jones and Ashley Martinez. I call them Sari, Lori and Ash. Oops! Did I say diary? Because this is not a diary. It’s a notebook. A notebook that looks like a diary, but isn’t one. Middle School is very confusing and my friend Lori learned the biggest lesson ever.
It went like this. My friend Sari is very sensitive and falls apart when she is embarrassed and hurt at the same time. So one day, we were walking to our next class when Lori starts talking about her cellphone. She says all sorts of great things about and just for fun, starts teasing Sari. “Hey Sari, you can’t get a new phone cause your parents won’t let you right? Well that sucks!” People start staring. Lori didn’t know that Sari was sensitive at that time. Sari looks down. “Everyone else has a cell phone, so why can’t you?” Lori continues. More people stare. Sari turns a very bright shade of red and starts to pretend to be engrossed into her pencil. Then came when Sari started to cry. Lori had started to laugh and said “hey Jo! Sari here can’t even have her own cell phone!” Jo started laughing a mean laugh. She was very popular in our grade. Sari spun around and burst into tears. Right there. Then she ran into the bathroom. “Gee, great job Loretta!” Said Ashley and ran to comfort her best friend. Lori was confused. “Why is she crying?” I took a deep breath and started to explain. “Sari is like a piece of paper. The first reaction she had was like a small tear in the paper. The second reaction was like a big rip down the middle. The last reaction was like someone crumpling up the paper and throwing it in the trash. She probably felt like a garbage dump.” “But I was just joking!” Lori protested. I sighed. “Lori, some people might take it in differently then what you anticipate. That’s why you don’t judge people. Sari was humiliated when people were staring at her and was even more humiliated when the most popular kid in the grade started to laugh at her. That’s why you shouldn’t judge people. This is a mild version of what will happen. In the cyber world, it would be worse. People even commit suicide!” Lori gasped. “I wouldn’t want that to happen to Sari! Oh no!” Then she dashed to the bathroom. “Sari I’m so so sorry that I humiliated you! Can we be friends?” Lori said, gasping for breath. Sari managed a weak smile. “Sure! Thanks for apologizing!” Then they skipped out the door. *Sigh.* What a happy ending.
!THE END!
